Server-Side Tag Implementation via Cloudflare Zaraz

A strategic migration from client-side to server-side tag management across web properties, using Cloudflare Zaraz to enable key marketing and analytics tools while improving data privacy, security, and overall site performance.

Outcome

Improved privacy and security posture across web properties through a fully server-side tag architecture.

The Challenge

Client-side tag implementations carry inherent risks: script bloat that slows page load, exposure of tracking logic in the browser, and data loss due to ad blockers and browser privacy restrictions. As privacy regulations tightened and security expectations increased, a move to server-side tagging became both a technical and business priority.

The migration also required careful coordination — managing requirements from end users who depended on these tools, maintaining continuity during the transition, and distilling complex technical specifications into clear, actionable requirements for engineering teams.

The Approach

  • Platform selection. Leveraged Cloudflare Zaraz as the server-side tag management solution, capitalising on its edge-delivery architecture for performance and its native integration with Cloudflare's network for security.
  • Tool migration. Scoped and managed the server-side implementation of key tools including Adobe Analytics, LinkedIn Conversion API, Reddit, and additional marketing tags — ensuring data fidelity was maintained throughout the transition.
  • End user requirements management. Gathered and managed requirements from internal stakeholders who depended on these tools for reporting, attribution, and campaign measurement, ensuring the migration addressed their needs without disruption.
  • Stakeholder communication. Served as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders and technical teams, translating marketing requirements into engineering specifications and communicating progress and timelines throughout the project.
  • Privacy and compliance alignment. Partnered with Legal and Privacy teams to ensure the implementation met GDPR and CCPA requirements, with consent signals correctly propagated through the server-side stack.

My Role

Senior Manager, MarTech — responsible for program management of the migration. This included requirements gathering from end users, cross-functional stakeholder communication, and translating business and marketing needs into technical specifications for engineering. I served as the connective layer between business intent and technical execution throughout the project.
